Walailak University (WU) has been ranked in the 501–600 band in the Times Higher Education Asia University Rankings 2026, while placing joint 10^th among Thai universities.

The 2026 rankings, released on 23 April 2026, include 929 universities from 36 countries and territories, of which 21 are from Thailand.

The rankings are based on the same framework as the World University Rankings, with adjusted weightings to reflect regional priorities. Universities are evaluated across five key areas: Research Quality (30%), Research Environment (28%), Teaching (24.5%), Industry (10%), and International Outlook (7.5%).

Among these pillars, Walailak University achieved its highest score in Research Quality, highlighting the impact and influence of its research outputs. This was followed by the International Outlook, where the university ranked 3^rd in Thailand, demonstrating global engagement through international collaboration and the presence of international students and staff. Teaching, Industry, and Research Environment followed respectively.

In the first half of the 2026 fiscal year (October 2025 – March 2026), Walailak University published a total of 507 articles in Scopus-indexed journals. Of these, 80% were in Quartile 1 (Q1), while 89.15% were in Q1 and Q2 combined. Furthermore, 70.81% of these articles involved international collaboration, reflecting the university’s strong performance in Research Quality and International Outlook.

This year’s results come amid intensifying competition across Asia’s higher education sector, with the number of ranked institutions increasing from 853 universities last year to 929 universities this year. The rankings highlight the continued dominance of Chinese universities in the top 10, alongside strong representation from Singapore, Japan, and Hong Kong.
