Improving Rehabilitation Services for Bedridden Elderly at Satit-Walailak-Pattana Community

          On 26 and 31 May 2022, Asst. Prof. Jiraphat Nawarat, Deputy Director of Walailak University Hospital, Dr. Charupa Lektip, Lecturer at the School of Allied Health Sciences, the working group of the Center for Academic Service, Walailak University, and the staff of Chumchon Sathit Walailak Phatthana Tambon Health Promotion Hospital provided rehabilitation services to the elderly at Satit-Walailak-Pattana community, Tha Sala district, Nakhon Si Thammarat province.

          The outreach is part of the project titled “the sustainable development of integrated health service delivery networks for the elderly in Walailak Demonstration Community”. The project mentioned earlier has been in operation for three years with a mission of providing academic services to develop the surrounding communities and helping in solving communal problems in the 2022 financial year. Moreover, it was operated in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being, ensuring healthy lives and promoting well-being for of at all ages, and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals, establishing cooperation with relevant agencies.

          In this regard, Asst. Prof. Jiraphat Nawarat as head of the project conducted various activities to enhance the treatment of those bedridden elderly patients including:

          - Movement performance assessment in various expects for diagnostic process in rehabilitation such as physical impairments, activities of daily living, and so on.

          - Rehabilitation provision for 10 bedridden elderly patients, e.g., muscle-strengthening activities, rehabilitation programs of joints on the practice of Family Caregivers, and balance exercises.

          - Providing insights and knowledge on appropriate elderly transportation to family caregivers and village health volunteers.

               For the next procedure, the relevant working group will cooperate with the physiotherapist and students of Walailak University, and the village health volunteers to set a rehabilitation service plan, including performing an assessment of the mobile app for physical therapy services.
