Students across nation confirm admission to Walailak University in TCAS65, the highest in 20 years


     

      Prof. Dr. Sombat Thamrongthanyawong, President of Walailak University, reveals the highest record of admission confirmations made by incoming students in TCAS65. The record showed the students’ average GPX upon enrollment at 3.30, resulting from the university’s continuous effort put into educational reform to become a world-class university. 


      Despite the university’s original admission scheme to offer 2,736 places, more than 30,000 students, far exceeding the set goal have applied to programs across disciplines. Among those, 3,880 have been offered a place and confirmed along with payment on 7 June 2022. As for the overall performance, the record suggested an average GPAX of 3.30, thereby the highest record ever in terms of both quantity and quality. 


    “If you look at the statistics of the students who have confirmed their admission to Walailak University from 2019 onwards. It is evident that the record has been steadily growing: 1,748, 2,478, and 3,104 in 2019, 2020, and 2021 respectively. As for this academic year 2022, “TCAS65”, a total of 3,880 students have confirmed to come here. Compared with TCAS 1, there are 1,000 more students in the academic year 2022” said Professor Dr. Sombat.


     Prof. Dr. Sombat said further that in terms of overall GPX, students scored 3.11, 3.12, and 3.20 respectively. In 2022 for TCAS65, it was found that the average GPAX has risen to 3.30 implying competition and interest among top students which also suggests higher quality of education at Walailak University. Prof. Dr. Sombat said that the university's continuous development over the past 6 years, including the reform of teaching and learning towards becoming a quality university together with the adoption of the UK Professional Standards Framework (PSF) to develop professional teaching and learning, were the important factors behind this success. Currently, Walailak University hosts 487 UKPSF-certified lecturers, the highest in Thailand. 


    “Furthermore, the university is developing learning aids and facilities such as 150 Smart classrooms, cutting-edge laboratories, Digital Laboratory, with a 24-hour security system. There have also been the construction and renovation of stadiums, Walailak University Hospital surrounded by a refreshing environment featuring Walailak Park spanning over 89 acres, Botanic Garden, Campsite, Bota Sky Tower, Wildlife Education Center, and the biggest Bota Cactus Dome in the south. Above all, at Walailak University, academic staff and personnel take close care of students. We would like to ensure their happy living on campus,” said Prof. Dr. Sombat.
