Walailak University organizes the Nurse Cap Granting Ceremony for the 20th and 21st batch of WU Nursing Graduates

Walailak University recently organized a Nurse Cap Granting Ceremony to grant cap stripes, nursing caps, and university pins to the 20th and 21st batch of nursing students studying in a Bachelor of Nursing Science program. These 3rd and 4th-year students are to attend the nursing training program at the assigned hospital. Joining the ceremony to be awarded the certificate were graduates of the Specialized Nursing Program, and Nursing Assistant Certificate Program, as well as the graduates of the Master of Nursing Program and outstanding alumni together with the current students with excellent academic performance.

The School of Nursing received an honor from Assoc. Prof. Dr. Charan Boonkan, Acting Vice President, presiding over the ceremony also attended by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Urai Jaraeprapal, Dean of the School of Nursing along with the faculties in the main auditorium, Thai Buri Building, Walailak University.

The Nurse Cap Granting Ceremony or the Capping ceremony is essentially a ritual demoting the duties and mission of a person wearing it while the black stripes symbolize a nursing student’s completion of the Bachelor of Nursing Science program. Also, the lamp symbol commemorates Miss Florence Nightingale, the pioneer of the nursing profession. Granting of black stripes, nursing caps, and institution pins to nursing graduates suggests an official procession to becoming a professional registered nurse.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Urai Jaraeprapal gave a congratulatory remark to the graduates and reminded them of the duty and responsibilities expected of a nurse. The ceremony shall serve as a symbol emphasizing a nurse’s devotion to performing duties for the good health of the patients, adhering to professional ethics, and applying accurate and up-to-date knowledge and principles with compassion. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Urai said further that society is changing rapidly which takes a toll on people’s living and health. Healthcare and medical technology are also evolving significantly, so even after graduating and becoming a nurse, the graduates need to be curious and continue to learn more to keep up with the various changes.

“May all graduates be committed to the morals and ethics, love and respect the honor of our profession and the name of Walailak University in order to maintain the honor of oneself as enshrined in our motto "Good and able", said Assoc. Prof. Dr. Urai.
