The researchers received an award plaque from Dr. Chalermchai Sri-on, Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives (MOAC).

(June 30, 2022), Associate Prof. Dr. Warin Inthana, Director of the AIC Center, Nakhon Si Thammarat revealed that the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives had organized the AIC Award 2022 Agritech and Innovation Center contest to search for projects or studies that address national development in economic, social and environmental aspects. The selection included works conducted nationwide and Walailak University, under the AIC Center, joined the contest and won the Excellence Award.

Awards received are 1) Best Innovation in Agritech from research and academic services on Restoration of Blue Crab Resources and Promotion of the Economy of Coastal Fishing Communities by Assistant Professor Dr. Amornsak Sawasdee and team and 2) Excellent innovation for Agricultural Society for the research on Trichoderma 5+, international standard biological pesticides by Associate Prof. Dr. Warin Intana and his team. The two WU researchers attended the award presentation ceremony to receive a plaque from Mr. Chalermchai Sri-on, Thailand's Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives, and Mr. Alongkorn Ponlaboot, Chairman of the AIC Executive Committee as well as Counselor to Minister of the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives on 29 June 2022.

Regarding research and academic services to restore blue crab resources, Walailak University implemented the project in the coastal fishery area of Nakhon Si Thammarat and Surat Thani. The project has been in operation since 2018 and currently 87 Blue Crab Bank Learning Centers have been established. As for the outcome, the project has proved practical and effective in increasing the number of blue crabs resulting in more income earned, and reshaping the locals’ attitudes toward sustainable reservation of economic marine animals. The activity also found its way to connect with gastronomic tourism activities in Nakhon Si Thammarat.

For Trichoderma 5+ research innovation, the work itself effectively combines 6 components including Trichoderma NST-009- giving the most effective plant disease control,  Metharisium WU-003- most effective in controlling worms and pests, Beauveria fungus WU-002 - most effective in controlling aphid and worm control, Calcium - nutrient that increases the strength and self-defense system of plant cells and Growth-enhancing magnesium - nutrient and chlorophyll composition together with the substances that strengthen and stimulate the immune system of plant cells. The study lessened the demand for labor for the farmers in a cost-effective way.

The Agricultural Technology and Innovation Center (AIC), Nakhon Si Thammarat Province, is located at the School of Agricultural Technology and Food Industry, Walailak University. The center is commissioned to promote the competitiveness of Nakhon Si Thammarat’s agricultural sector with technology and innovation, supporting and promoting Agritech.
