Walailak University Signs MOUs for Cooperation on a Cooperative Study Program with 21 Leading Organizations

     Walailak University, led by the Center for Cooperative Education and Career Development, joined hands with organizations across the country in signing an MOU on the cooperative study. This cooperation is aimed toward students’ aptitude development in response to present labor market demands. 


   On 25th July 2022, Professor Dr. Sombat Thamrongthanyawong, President of Walailak University, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on Cooperative and Work-Integrated Education (CWIE) in 2022 with over 22 partner organizations from several private sectors and industries including hospitality and tourism industries, and public sectors. The MOU signing aims to achieve a collaborative effort to promote cooperative and work-integrated education and academic and professional skills which answer to the needs of the present day’s labor market. Also, the scheme is set to correspond to the university’s 8-month cooperative education program. Witnessing the ceremony were Asst. Prof. Padungsak Suksa-Ard, Acting vice president of Walailak University, Dr. Attanan Tachopisalwong, Director of the Center for Cooperative Education and Career Development, Walailak University, as well as administrators, faculty members, Walailak University officers, representative of the partner organizations at Hua Thapan Conference Hall, Walailak University Hospital.  


    Prof. Dr. Sombat Thamrongthanyawong said in the ceremony that the MOU marks another milestone of cooperative education collaboration between Walailak University and partner organizations to produce graduates recognized for “Good academic skills, practical skills, and employability”. The cooperation also serves as a driving mechanism in crafting the workforce in line with the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research, and Innovation announcing the CWIE platform and the outcome of the implementation of CWIE. 


    However, Walailak University has instituted a cooperative education system since its first admission of the students in the Academic year 2001 in which 495 students participated in the program co-organized with 269 organizations. Presently, Walailak University’s cooperative education network has grown with up to 3,000 partner organizations joining the program both in Thailand and overseas. In the Fiscal year 2022, a total of 1,799 students joined the program. The university has recently expanded its cooperative education program to 8 months from the original 4-month length to optimize students’ expertise. 


   “After adjusting the cooperative education model to 8 months, our students are ready to work. Entrepreneurs are also satisfied with the quality of our graduates: hardworking, diligent, patient, determined, and attentive. With such a persona, many organizations are keen to hire them even before they complete the program,” said Professor Dr. Sombat. 


    Organizations entering into an MOU with Walailak University to coordinate a cooperative study program include Western Digital Storage Technologies (Thailand) Company Limited, Peerapat Technology Public Company Limited, Somboon Advance Technology Public Company Limited, Sea Oil Public Company Limited, Cissa Group Company Limited Petch Sriwichai Enterprise Co., Ltd. The Monk Studio Co., Ltd. Ease Production Studio Co., Ltd. YKP Ocean Service Company Limited, DIA International Audit Company Limited, JRT Audit Company Limited, Siam IT Networking (Thailand) Company Limited, Nakhon Si Station Dot Com, Park Hyatt Bangkok Hotel, Sri Panwa Management Company Limited, Navakitel Design Hotel, Hotel Dusit Thani Krabi Beach Resort, Twin Lotus Hotel, Tha Sala Provincial Electricity Authority, Phuket Provincial Public Relations Office, and the Thailand Broadcasting Station, Phuket Province.
