Walailak University Coordinating with Sports Authority of Thailand and Network Partners to Organize the Personnel Training on Sports Sciences for Thai Athlete's Excellence

    Walailak University in coordination with the Sports Authority of Thailand (SAT) and network partners held a training on sports science for personnel specializing in the field to promote Thailand’s excellence in sports in line with the national strategies. 

    The Center for Culture and Sports Promotion, Walailak University co-organizes the training for sports science personnel with a regional department of Sports Authority of Thailand and the network partners between 20 and 22 July 2022 to promote Thailand sports science workforce in the south of Thailand. 


     On 20 July 2022, Prof. Dr. Sombat Thamrongthanyawong, acting president of Walailak University, officially welcomed and opened the ceremony, followed by Associate Prof. Dr. Worawut Somsak, acting vice president, gave a briefing on the conference at Hua Thapan meeting room, Walailak University hospital. The training attracted a number of academics and sports scientists as well as personnel in Thailand’s sports network, students and interested public totaling 150. 

     Professor Dr. Sombat reiterated in the opening that development of sports science workforce is significant since it can promote Thai athlete development to an internationally recognized standard. Walailak University has launched program in Sports and Exercise Science to produce experts in the field in response to a growing demand. Also, the university has taken active action to modernize sports facilities in line with the teaching and learning system, students’ exercise and international sports contests. In the future, the university is planning on organizing a single-category sports competition and inviting athletes from universities across Thailand to join. 


     “Sports is one of our main missions. We place much importance in promotion of sports among our students and collaboration in the partner network both in Nakhon Si Thammarat and Thailand. That is because cooperation is among the important elements needed to enhance our progress,” said Professor Dr. Worarut said further about the training’s objectives of developing the nation’s sports workforce, enhancing knowledgebase in sports science for sports scientists and personnel working in this field in the southern region. Furthermore, the event serves as platform for an exchange of sports science knowledge and experience in unlocking the potential of Thai athletes in line with Thailand’s athlete development strategies. All the efforts lead to expanding and strengthening the solid cooperation the southern region’s sports science. 

    The training was joined by leading figures in sports such as Prof. Dr. Charoen Krabuanrat, Asst. Prof. Dr. Suebsai Boonveerabut, Asst. Prof. Dr. Tavorn Kamutsri and Mr. Aekawit Sawangphon. Sports equipment sponsored by various organizations were also put on a display for users to try.
