On 10 October 2022, Advance Higher Education (Advance HE), formerly the Higher Education Academy (HEA), has updated the figure of HEA Fellowships of Walailak University which has reached a total number of 553, making it the university with the most certified lecturers in Thailand and second globally excluding the UK. Currently, Walailak University has 493 Fellows, 59 Senior Fellows, and 1 Principal Fellow.

Since 2017, Walailak University under the leadership of Professor Dr. Sombat Thamrongthanyawong, President of Walailak University, has been working with Advance HE and supporting several cohorts of lecturers to participate in the Certificate in Learning and Teaching in Higher Education (CLTHE) program which aligned with the Professional Standards Framework for Teaching and Supporting Learning in Higher Education.

Previously, Advance HE had published a successful story on the university’s achievement with over 90% of teaching staff being awarded Fellowships, and outlined in reduced dropouts of Walailak University’s freshmen in 2020 from closed to 30 percent to less than 2 percent after the university taking part in CLTHE.

Before this work, staff did not talk about teaching, whereas now you can hear them discussing their teaching in everyday conversations. Student’s learning is at the heart of all our work.”
