Walailak University Executives Visiting Leading Universities in Japan specializing in Pharmacy, Science and Technology

Walailak University Executives led by Prof.Dr. Sombat Thamrongthanyawong, President of Walailak University, together with the University vice president’s team, visited top universities in Japan, from 29 – 30 September 2022, for future academic collaboration and exchange.

On 29 September 2022, WU executives visited Tokyo Institute of Technology or Tokyo Tech, the longest history amongst science and technology universities in Japan, ranks 3rd in Japan and 55th in the world by QS World University Rankings. The University has a total number of 10,500 students, similar in number to Walailak University, 4,000 of whom are undergrads, and 6,000 are postgraduates. There are 1,200 academic staff, and 600 support staff.

Commencing the trip on 29 September 2022, the WU delegation visited Tokyo Tech internationally recognized for its expertise in science and technology in Japan. The university provides full degree programs at different levels, intensively orienting the students toward research practices, especially at the graduate level. Tokyo Tech is also home to 1,700 international students from over 78 countries worldwide, constituting 15% of all.

“Central to the discussion is the majority of Tokyo Tech’s current students making a decision to pursue a higher degree at Tokyo Tech, accounting for 90% at an undergraduate level and 10% at a postgrad level,” said Assoc. Prof. Dr. Charun Bunyakan, Acting Vice President of Walailak University.

On 30 September 2022, the delegation of WU met with the executive team and faculty members at Yogohama University of Pharmacy (YUP), Yogohama, Japan. The major purpose of the meeting focuses on approaches to equipping pharmacists with practical clinical skills. Walailak University has been facilitating its senior pharmaceutical students from the School of Pharmacy to YUP internships continuously since the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) in 2017. This visit is believed to further strengthen the cooperation between the two institutions, sharing interest in promoting future academic collaboration, exchange of students, and staff mobility once the situation of the COVID - 19 fully improves.
