Walailak University Welcomes Consul-General of the People's Republic of China

China’s Consul-General in Songkhla, Ms. Wu Dongmei, paid a visit to Walailak University last week. She was welcomed by Professor Dr. Sombat Thamrongthanyawong, President of Walailak University, and Associate Professor Dr. Surin Maisrikrod, Vice-President for Global Engagement, at Honors Room, 4th floor, Administration Building, Walailak University Hospital.


     On 11 October 2022, Her Excellency Ms. Wu Dongmei, Consul-General of the People's Republic of China in Songkhla, and representatives from Nakhon Si Thammarat Chinese Commercial Association visited Walailak University.


     On this occasion, Professor Dr. Sombat briefed the Consul-General on progresses of Walailak University such as a higher rank in Scimago, WU ranked 9th in Thailand and 422th in the world; Walailak University Hospital which will become the largest medical center in Thailand’s upper south in 2023; and the growing popularity of Bachelor of Arts Program in Chinese. 


   Currently, Walailak University has around 70 Chinese graduates and undergraduates studying in China through online platforms. This is due to the collaboration of Walailak University, Open Education Group, and Guangzhou Huashang Education Group. The students will come to study at WU once the pandemic situation subsides.


     After the meeting at Honors Room, Ms. Wu Dongmei was led on a tour of Walailak University. “I’m very impressed. The president and the staff here are working very hard not only for the local people, but also for people in Thailand and China. I’m sure that they can build a very good bridge between the two countries. Thank you so much for their efforts. And we are looking forward to the future” said the Consul-General.


    This official visit by the Consul-General is believed to strengthen relationships between Walailak University and China, and promote future collaborations such as research, staff mobility, and scholarship opportunity.
