Walailak University Management Team Visits Uzbekistan, Promoting Student and Staff Mobility, Research, and Scholarship Opportunities

The management team of Walailak University (WU), led by Professor Dr. Sombat Thamrongthanyawong, President, has recently traveled to Uzbekistan to visit leading universities in the country, as well as the Ministry of Preschool and School Education, and the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Innovations to promote student and staff mobility, research, and scholarship opportunities.

On 3 April 2024, the executive team from WU, including Dean of the School of Engineering and Technology Assistant Professor Dr. Monthian Setkit, Chairperson of the International Management Graduate Program from the School of Accountancy and Finance Assistant Professor Dr. Pankeawta Lakkanawanit, and Director of the Center for International Affairs Assistant Professor Dr. Patnarin Supakorn, traveled to the National University of Uzbekistan (NUU), located in the capital city of Tashkent.

During the visit, Professor Dr. Sombat Thamrongthanyawong officially signed the Memorandum of Understanding for academic collaborations that NUU has established with Walailak University International College. The WU team also met with NUU’s Vice-Rector for International Relations Professor Shirinova Raima Hakimovna, and Vice-Rector for Methodological Provision and Quality Control of Education Professor Musurmanov Ravshan Kurbanmuratovich. They also toured classrooms and engaged in discussions with NUU executives from the Faculty of Economics, emphasizing opportunities for student and staff mobility and research collaboration.

  

On 4 April 2024, the delegation from WU continued their journey to Tashkent University of Information Technologies (TUIT), renowned for information and communication technologies and digital media, especially in developing cooperation with the private sector to enhance practical academic experiences for students, both in laboratory settings and in private sector enterprises.

President Sombat Thamrongthanyawong, on this occasion, met with TUIT’s Rector Makhkamov Bakhtiyor Shukhratovich and Vice Rector for Academic Affairs Sultanov Djamshid Bakhodirovich, and expressed his admiration for the TUIT's success in world rankings, its lush greenery, and its commitment to international cooperation.

To further enhance collaboration, WU Center for International Affairs, School of Engineering and Technology, and School of Informatics will collaborate with TUIT in course sharing and opportunities for informatics students to intern at TUIT. TUIT’s executives also plan to visit Walailak University in June this year.

 

On 5 April 2024, in efforts to promote student mobility at both undergraduate and graduate levels, the WU executives visited the Ministry of Preschool and School Education and met with Ms. Nargiza Kuchkarova, Head of Pre-service and In-service Teacher Education Department.

Ms. Kuchkarova expressed interest in academic collaboration with WU and proposed international activities, including a one-week international summer camp for kids in Eurasia and other partner countries; short international programs for teaching training in STEM, education leadership, and language teaching; dual degree programs in education, and research collaboration with Uzbekistan's Centers of Excellence.

In the afternoon on the same day, the WU team met with Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Innovations Professor Dr. Sarvarkhon M. Buzrukkhonov and provided information to promote invitations for Uzbekistani students to study at WU, as well as scholarship opportunities.
