Walailak Architecture Student Wins 1st Runner-Up Award in ASA Architectural Design Student Competition 2024

Mr. Sahad Satik, a third-year student in the architecture program at the School of Architecture and Design, Walailak University, won the 1st runner-up award in the ASA Architectural Design Student Competition 2024, organized by the Association of Siamese Architects under the Royal Patronage. The winning project was titled “Lawon Project: Rediscovering Another Collective Space.”

The Lawon Canal is a natural waterway in Klaeng District, Rayong Province, serving as a boundary between the sub-districts of Kram and Sakpong before reaching the sea at Ao Tan.

Originally, it was about 40 meters wide, but later narrowed to about 3-4 meters due to sedimentation.

Previously, the canal was a fishing village area, boat parking, and oyster farming area that encroached on mangrove forest areas. Currently, there is a campaign to conserve the Lawon Canal ecosystem and prevent the destruction of nature and the environment in the area.

The winning student presented a development concept for the Lawon Canal area, detailing various design approaches from analytical perspectives of the area. The aim is to create an economically creative space for leisure, tourism business, and sustainable living.

The presentation was made to professionals and landowners to facilitate the development of environmentally friendly designs, resulting in winning the 1st runner-up award in this competition.

The ASA Architectural Design Student Competition is an activity for students and faculty members from architecture institutions nationwide, totaling 37 institutions. This year's theme was 'Collective Language: Touch of Architecture,' held from April 30th to May 5th, 2024, at Challenger Halls 1-3, IMPACT Arena, Muang Thong Thani.
