Walailak University International College (WUIC) held a farewell event for four exchange students from the Russian Presidential Academy of National Economy and Public Administration (RANEPA). The students have been at WU for four months and will return home tomorrow. The event was held at the Honor Hall of WU Hospital, today.
During their time at WU, the students participated in various courses alongside their peers and immersed themselves in culturally rich activities. They took courses such as business management, business law, Thai civilization, global citizenship, and sports like tennis.
Beyond the classroom, they explored the city of Nakhon Si Thammarat, watched pink dolphins in Khanom district, and attended intercultural night events.
Professor Dr. Sombat Thamrongthanyawong, President of Walailak University, emphasized that exchange programs offer students invaluable opportunities to broaden their horizons. He noted that one of the most significant takeaways for students is increased self-confidence.
Sharing his experience as an exchange student for the first time, Professor Dr. Sombat said it was very exciting, but he struggled with confidence.
"I wasn’t sure how to approach people I didn’t know, and my English wasn’t so good at the time. However, I decided to embrace whatever came my way. And it turned out that people were very nice and kind. We formed close bonds with both students and professors."
“So, I hope you’ve had a similar experience here at Walailak. And as Thai people, we hope you will revisit Thailand in the near future.”
Ms. Veronica Isevich, one of the exchange students from RANEPA, described her time at WU as a memorable journey. She expressed her gratitude and delight for the opportunity to meet new friends and immerse herself in a different culture. “I enjoyed being here so much, and when you’re happy, time flies,” she said.
“Looking back, it feels like I just arrived yesterday. Meeting new friends has been wonderful. I really like Thai people, and I’ve enjoyed experiencing the true culture. It has been an incredible journey that I will never forget,” Veronica added.
The relationship between WUIC and RANEPA has been growing for over two years, following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding in 2022. WUIC students have the opportunity to participate in exchange programs in RANEPA, and the next group of students from RANEPA is set to arrive at WU this November.
Closing the event, Dr. Suchita Manajit, Vice Dean of WUIC, wished all the students success and encouraged them to carry forward the lessons they’ve learned. "You are always part of Walailak University. And thank you for choosing WU as part of your journey," she said.
