Walailak University Pays Courtesy Call to the Embassy of the Republic of South Africa



On 29 August 2024, a delegation from Walailak University (WU) International Affairs Task Force paid a courtesy call to H.E. Mr. Darkey Africa, Ambassador; Mr. Lebogang Seshoka, First Secretary: Political; and Ms. Thobeka Dlamini, Counsellor Political, at the Embassy of the Republic of South Africa in Bangkok. The visit aimed to foster international collaboration and highlight WU’s accomplishments in research excellence, contributions to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and its broader commitment to global well-being.

The WU delegation, which included Dr. Suthasinee Sangkhum, Assistant to the President; Assistant Professor Dr. Chantira Wongnen, Deputy Dean of the School of Agricultural Technology and Food Industry; Dr. Suchita Manajit, Deputy Dean of Walailak University International College (WUIC); and Assistant Professor Dr. Shubham Pathak, Assistant Dean of the College of Graduate Studies, engaged in discussions with the embassy on strengthening educational partnerships and scholarship opportunities.

During the meeting, the WU delegation highlighted the university’s 19 international postgraduate programs and the availability of scholarships designed to support human resource development in South Africa. Discussions also explored the possibility of educational and research collaborations, particularly in facilitating student exchanges and PhD grants.

The Embassy of South Africa suggested inviting Ambassador Darkey Africa as a guest lecturer during Africa Month, with a focus on topics such as the legacy of Nelson Mandela. The embassy also committed to disseminating information about WU’s PhD grant opportunities to relevant academic and governmental institutions in South Africa and congratulated WU on its significant contributions to the Sustainable Development Goals.
