Walailak University International College (WUIC) hosted a farewell ceremony for 13 exchange students from three partner institutions: The Russian Presidential Academy of National Economy and Public Administration (RANEPA), Russia; Kazakh Ablai Khan University of International Relations and World Languages, Kazakhstan; and Baltic State Technical University, Russia.

The students joined WUIC under academic exchange agreements and studied alongside WUIC students in the Bachelor of Business Administration during the first semester of the 2025 academic year, from June to September.

The farewell event, held on 22 September 2025 at the Honor Room, Professor Dr. Wichit Srisa-an Building, was presided over by Walailak University President, Professor Dr. Sombat Thamrongthanyawong, who expressed his appreciation to the students for their participation and contributions during their stay.

During the ceremony, the students engaged in a conversation with President Sombat, asking about topics ranging from how to succeed in today’s world, to places to visit in Thailand, to animals, and even tea.

Anastasiia Iusova, one of the exchange students from RANEPA, described Walailak University as a “wonderful place” because of its kind people, beautiful campus, and supportive professors. When asked what she would take back home to Russia from her experience, she replied: “It’s a smile for my face.”

She explained that in Russia, people usually do not smile much when meeting others, but her time at Walailak University changed that. Surrounded by friendly classmates and supportive friends, she found herself smiling more often - and she hopes to carry that habit home with her.

When asked what advice she would give to future exchange students, she jokingly recommended: “Wear more SPF, many steps for the face, for the skin.” More seriously, she encouraged them to embrace every opportunity:

“I think just recommended to have many travels and meetings with good people. Because it’s a cool experience when you’re meeting with Thai people and you know the people who live in Thailand. And it’s a big opportunity for the future.”

Dr. Suchita Manajit, Associate Dean of WUIC, highlighted the wide range of experiences the students enjoyed during the semester. They attended courses such as Business Accounting, Operations Management, Leadership in Organizations, E-Commerce, and Research Methods in Business, while also participating in group projects, case studies, and class discussions. “Beyond the classroom, they joined cultural activities such as community visits and campus events like International Cultural Night, and the Khanom Beach field trip,” she said.

According to Dr. Suchita, WUIC has welcomed students from these partner universities every year since 2022. She emphasized that the program benefits both exchange and local students: “Exchange students gain international academic exposure and cross-cultural skills, while WUIC students enhance their intercultural competence, global perspectives, and collaboration skills. The program enriches campus diversity and fosters mutual understanding.”

The farewell ceremony not only celebrated the students’ achievements but also underscored Walailak University’s commitment to nurturing global citizens and strengthening ties with its international partners, with students carrying home smiles and lasting memories.
