Walailak University has been honored with the Thailand Talent Award 2025: Outstanding Research Organization, presented by the Thailand Science Research and Innovation (TSRI). The award recognizes the university’s excellence in research management, research productivity, and its success in translating research into tangible societal impact.

The award ceremony took place on the afternoon of 11 December 2025, during the Thailand Talent Summit 2025 at the PEACH International Convention Center, Royal Cliff Beach Hotel, Pattaya.

Professor Dr. Sombat Thamrongthanyawong, President of Walailak University, accepted the award from Professor Emeritus Dr. Sirirurg Songsivilai, Chairman of the National Commission on Science, Research and Innovation Promotion, amid applause from members of Thailand’s leading research community.

Reflecting on this achievement, President Sombat expressed his deep appreciation: “We are truly honored to receive this award. It affirms our success and serves as an important source of encouragement for our faculty and staff, who have worked tirelessly to elevate the university. Our policy has always been to prioritize research as the primary driving force of the institution in every dimension.”

President Sombat emphasized that Walailak University’s research potential has grown beyond national prominence to achieve clear international recognition. In the past year alone, the university produced more than 900 research publications.

“A key indicator of our research quality is our publication record in Scopus-indexed international journals, particularly those in Quartile 1 (Q1) and Quartile 2 (Q2). When comparing publications per faculty member, Walailak University has ranked No. 1 in Thailand for three consecutive years,” he noted.

“This success is not a coincidence; it is the result of strong foundations built over time. In 2023, the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation (MHESI) recognized our achievement by presenting us with the Outstanding Award for Excellence in Internationally High-Caliber Research. This reaffirmed that Walailak University’s research standards have fully reached the international level.”

The Thailand Talent Award 2025: Outstanding Research Organization is a prestigious national recognition awarded to institutions that demonstrate excellence in managing science, research, and innovation ecosystems. The award honors organizations that excel in developing research personnel, fostering collaborative networks, and driving research outcomes toward real-world application - ultimately contributing to national development.

This achievement underscores Walailak University’s rising leadership in Thailand’s research landscape and its continuing commitment to generating knowledge that delivers meaningful impact to society.
