Walailak University, through collaboration among the School of Public Health, the Ph.D. in Public Health Research program, and the Excellence Center for Public Health Research, is set to host the 6th Excellence Center for Public Health Research (EC for PHR) International Conference under the theme, “Education for Sustainable Public Health: Building Capacity, Resilience, and Equity for Future Generations.” Scheduled for 27 March 2026, the conference will be held in a hybrid format at the Khao Luang Chamber, Center for Cooperative Education and Career Development, as part of the Walailak Research Convention 2026 (WRC 2026).

This international conference reaffirms the University’s commitment to advancing research excellence, strengthening global academic networks, and promoting sustainable development through public health education.

Professor Dr. Charuai Suwanbamrung, Head of the Excellence Center for Public Health Research, noted that this marks the sixth international academic conference organized by the Center. She emphasized that beyond research production and publication, education remains at the very heart of sustainable public health advancement.

“As an Excellence Center, our primary responsibility is to generate impactful research and international publications,” Professor Dr. Charuai said. “However, sustainable public health cannot be achieved without strong education. Building international networks and strengthening academic capacity are essential to preparing professionals who can respond to evolving global health challenges.”

The theme of the 2026 conference underscores the critical role of education as the foundation of sustainable public health systems. Education equips health professionals, educators, and researchers with the competencies required to strengthen health systems, adapt to environmental and societal changes, and promote equity across generations. By focusing on education, the conference highlights the long-term investment needed to ensure resilient and inclusive public health systems for the future.

The theme is structured around three core pillars: building capacity by strengthening the competencies of public health professionals, educators, and health service providers; enhancing resilience by improving preparedness and adaptive responses to environmental and global changes; and advancing equity for future generations by promoting inclusive public health systems in an era increasingly influenced by artificial intelligence and technological transformation.

The conference will feature three distinguished keynote speakers whose expertise aligns with these pillars. Dr. Chawetsan Namwat, Director of the Health Systems Development Section at the Thai Health Promotion Foundation, will address capacity building; Assistant Professor Dr. Avishek Adhikary from the Haldia Institute of Technology, India, will speak on resilience; and Professor Dr. Shamarina Shohaimi from Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) will present on equity for future generations. In addition, distinguished scholars from Vietnam, Thailand, and Ethiopia will serve as chairpersons for the oral presentation sessions, further enriching academic dialogue and international collaboration.

Professor Dr. Charuai expressed confidence that the conference will not only sustain Walailak University’s research standing and global engagement but also forge long-lasting international academic networks. She highlighted that doctoral students will have the opportunity to deliver oral presentations, enabling them to demonstrate their research competencies, enhance their academic communication skills, and position themselves as future leaders in public health.
