Recently, Prof. Sombat Thomrongthanyawong, PhD, the chancellor of Walailak University and Dr. Tiro A. Ronquillo, the chancellor of Batangas State University, Philippines, signed the Memorandum of Understanding, which is concerned with developing research studies and academic education together through video conferencing (Zoom Meeting). Also in attendance were several lecturers and staff from both universities, who joined the meeting as eyewitnesses.

"It's my pleasure that Walailak University has a good opportunity to collaborate with Batangas State University because both of us have the same vision and purpose of improving students' quality. Also, the university is a learning source, developing our community or country with a goal to achieve international standards. Overall, I hope that signing the MOU will be effective to enhance the research studies and the procedure of learning and developing staff in the university, as well as academic service. Once the Covid-19 crisis declines and the situation becomes normal, I hope that we will do other activities together without social distancing," said Prof. Sombat Thomrongthanyawong.

Dr. Tirso A. Ronquillo stated that collaboration between universities is a necessary aspect that affects Sustainable Development goals and is one of the important elements for long-term academic development. Even though the Covid-19 crisis will significantly influence collaborative activities between universities, we still have a great chance to participate in these activities with other universities, such as working on research studies together and inviting visiting professors to do so co-teaching. Furthermore, from the Memorandum of Understanding, lecturers from both universities can exchange to enhance educational efficiency in the future.

The Memorandum of Understanding for the academic purpose between Walailak University and Batangas State University, Philippines, aims to bring convenience in exchanging lecturers between both universities to gain research proficiency, discuss specific topics, and attend academic seminars or even planning and running workshops.
