Walailak University Welcomes Indonesian Students Joining Cooperative Education and Work Integrated Learning Program

Walailak University (WU), through its Center for Cooperative Education and Career Development (COOP), in collaboration with the School of Political Science and Public Administration (PPA) and the School of Education and Liberal Arts (SELA), welcomed inbound students from Indonesia as part of their internship program to participate in Cooperative Education and Work Integrated Learning (CWIE) at WU.

The students, twelve from Universitas Mataram and eight from Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta are joining the WU CWIE program as teacher assistants at PPA, SELA, and four schools in Nakhon Si Thammarat Province: Muang Nakhon Si Thammarat School, Muslim Santitham Foundation School, Mahadislam Imaneeyah Foundation School, and Prateepsassana Pondok Bantan School from June 30 to August 14, 2024.

The welcoming event was held today at the Khoao Luang Chamber, Cooperative Education Building.

Assistant Professor Dr. Padungsak Suksa-Ard, Vice President of WU and Acting Dean of PPA, said that this year, PPA is advancing the student exchange program more than ever by extending it from brief courses to include Cooperative Education.

“We have included several secondary schools in Nakhon Si Thammarat in our collaboration network. And throughout the program, students will have the best opportunity to learn and gain experience.”

Dr. Kamontip Klaibanmai, Vice Dean of SELA, said that the students will be able to work on meaningful projects that provide hands-on experience in their respective fields. She emphasized that each student’s unique insights, skills, and cultural background will contribute immensely to the community.

“We believe that diversity enriches our perspectives, drives innovation, and enhances the overall learning experience. By taking this step towards expanding your horizons and embracing new challenges, your presence here will not only support your academic achievement but also your personal and professional growth.”

Dr. Attanan Techopisanwong, Director of COOP, remarked that this experience is a “new chapter of students’ lives.” Apart from academics, students will learn social skills and Thai culture. He also emphasized WU's policy of welcoming international students to participate in the CWIE program, highlighting Indonesia as a strong partner in strengthening this initiative.

CWIE, typically eight months for WU students, is an experiential education program based on competencies. It allows students to study at a higher education institution while gaining practical experience in the workplace before graduation. The program, also known as internship, ensures that students are well-prepared to enter the world of work right after graduation.

Currently, WU's outbound CWIE has reached several countries, including Indonesia, Malaysia, Vietnam, Greece, Japan, Australia, China, Taiwan, and Laos. Inbound CWIE, currently hosting students from Indonesia and Malaysia, will soon expand to cover more regions worldwide.
