Walailak University Joins Hands with Liaoning Normal University to Organize Chinese Language Teaching Training for Teachers in Nakhon Si Thammarat and Neighboring Provinces

Walailak University (WU) has partnered with Liaoning Normal University (LNNU), China, to organize Chinese Language Teaching Skills Training Program for primary and secondary school teachers in Nakhon Si Thammarat and neighboring provinces. The program, held from August 16 to 18, 2024, at the Srithammarat Chamber, Architecture and Design Building, aims to equip participants - all of whom are teachers - with skills, knowledge, and updated techniques for effectively teaching Chinese to students.

The opening ceremony, held today, was presided over by Associate Professor Dr. Sarawoot Palipoch, Vice President of WU and Dean of the School of Education and Liberal Arts (SELA). Special lecturers from LNNU included Associate Professor Gao Zhiwu, Professor Li Baogui, Professor Wang Zhenlai, and Professor Xu Xiaoyi.

Dean Sarawoot Palipoch expressed his pleasure in welcoming everyone to the training program, which focuses on enhancing Chinese language teaching skills for teachers at the primary and secondary levels.

“In today’s world, Chinese has become increasingly important for global communication. Since 2004, our school has continuously advanced Chinese language teaching. This training program, made possible through collaboration with Liaoning Normal University, focuses on equipping teachers with essential skills to help Thai youth communicate effectively in Chinese, emphasizing listening, speaking, reading, and writing. I extend my heartfelt thanks to the lecturers from Liaoning Normal University for generously sharing their expertise and to everyone who has supported this event,” said Dean Sarawoot.

Associate Professor Gao Zhiwu, Vice Dean of the College of Internaitonal Education at LNNU, on behalf of the delegates, expressed his joy in being part of this collaborative effort with WU.

“On behalf of the lecturers from Liaoning Normal University, I would like to express my gratitude to the Chinese Language Program at the School of Education and Liberal Arts and to all the educational personnel in Thailand who have taken time out of their school break to participate in this event. We are deeply impressed by the dedication and enthusiasm of everyone involved and are confident in the bright future of Chinese language education in Thailand,” said Associate Professor Gao.

Throughout the three-day event, teachers will participate in sessions covering topics such as The Basic Principles of Chinese Teaching and The Reflections of Chinese Teaching, Chinese Characters and Teaching Methods, Pinyin Teaching and Phonetics Teaching, Chinese Culture and Cross-Cultural Communication, Chinese Grammar and Grammar Teaching, and Coordinated Development of Chinese Education in Countries around South China Sea: Realistic Foundation, Problem Challenges and Promotion Strategies. In addition to this event, both universities plan to collaborate on joint research projects and also curriculum development.

Dr. Sirikhun Phanrangsee, Head of the Chinese Program at SELA, WU, noted that this training program stems from strong collaboration between the two institutions following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding last year.

“This training is part of the university’s academic service, aligning with the university’s vision to unfailingly address community needs and to strive for international recognition for excellence,’” she said.

“Teachers participating in this event will gain new knowledge, refresh their skills in listening, speaking, reading, and writing, and learn various techniques that can be passed on to their primary and secondary school students,” Dr. Sirikhun added.
