Walailak University has achieved the top spot among Thai universities, being ranked first in the nation for Arts and Humanities, according to the recently released SCImago Institutions Rankings (SIR) 2024.

The university has shown a leap in its overall rankings nationally, moving up from 17^th place in 2023 to 12^th this year out of 33 Thai universities ranked. In Asia, Walailak University is positioned at 738^th out of 1,671 institutions, and globally it stands at 2,094^th out of 4,762 institutions.

The 2024 SIR evaluates universities based on three key factors: Research (50%), Innovation (30%), and Societal Impact (20%).

Within Societal Impact, three new indicators have been introduced to assess institutions: the generation of new knowledge related to the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the participation of women in research processes, and the use of the results obtained in the creation or improvement of public policies.

If considering the university’s rankings by subject within Thailand, Walailak University holds the 3^rd position in Ecology, Evolution, Behavior, and Systematics, the 6^th position in Public Health, Environmental, and Occupational Health, the 7^th position in Animal Science and Zoology; Education; and Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering, and the 10^th position in Dentistry.
