Walailak Research Convention 2025 (WRC2025) has commenced today with an international conference organized by the School of Allied Health Sciences, focusing on innovation and interdisciplinary collaboration to shape the future of Allied Health Sciences. Held at Rachawadee Room, the conference gathered experts from five countries - Turkey, Japan, China, Thailand, and Malaysia. More than 70 professors, researchers, and students participated, exchanging knowledge and exploring the latest advancements in the field.
Associate Professor Dr. Voravuth Somsak, Dean of the School of Allied Health Sciences, highlighted that this marks the fourth year the school has hosted the conference. Its purpose is to foster knowledge exchange and broaden perspectives through engagement with international experts. "We have to find ways to elevate education and research in Allied Health Sciences. Engaging with global experts helps us identify gaps and uncover new opportunities for progress,” he said.
The conference, held in a hybrid format, serves as a model for interdisciplinary cooperation across various fields. Dr. Voravuth explained that the event welcomes not only medical technologists and physical therapists but also doctors, pharmacists, engineers, and even marketers. Working together across disciplines can enhance healthcare services and drive meaningful innovations.
“For example, in the past, each profession operated independently. Today, patient care requires collaboration - medical technologists conduct blood tests, physical therapists contribute to rehabilitation, nurses promote treatment plans. At the same time, doctors oversee the entire process to ensure optimal patient outcomes.” Dr. Voravuth emphasized.
Additionally, the School of Allied Health Sciences showcased its innovations such as a culture medium that accelerates microorganism growth for faster diagnoses, the development of medicinal plant-based cosmetic products such as facial masks, cleansing gels, and acne spot treatments, and innovations aimed at improving the quality of life for the elderly as many countries transition into aging societies.
Throughout the event, distinguished guest speakers shared their expertise and research findings. Professor Dr. Nazim Sekeroglu from Gaziantep University, Turkey, discussed the global transition from chemical-based healthcare solutions to natural products, particularly in Europe and Turkey. He also highlighted the potential of herbal substances as antibiotics in animals, reducing chemical residues that could enter the human food chain.
Furthermore, Associate Professor Dr. Liu Yao from Kunming Medical University, China, presented research on the effects of Low-Intensity Focused Ultrasound on spasticity and the ERK/CREB signaling pathway, shedding light on advancements in non-invasive treatment methods. The conference also welcomed esteemed researchers, including Dr. Shinji Nemoto and Dr. Hiroyuki Ohtsuka from Showa University, Japan; Associate Professor Dr. Tang Xin from Kunming University, China; Dr. Narcisse MS Joseph from Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, Universiti Putra Malaysia; and Dr. Hjh Fazean Irdayati Hj Idris from UBD PAPRSB Institute of Health Sciences, Universiti Brunei Darussalam.
Dr. Voravuth further revealed that beyond contributing to allied health sciences education and advancing research, the conference also enriches student experiences, helping them become familiar with an international environment, to be able to assess their strengths and weaknesses and identify the skills needed to compete globally.
WRC2025, an annual conference of Walailak University dedicated to presenting academic research, facilitating knowledge exchange, and fostering research collaborations, is now in its fourth year. This year’s convention marks Walailak University’s 33rd anniversary on March 29.
The official opening ceremony will be held tomorrow at the Thaiburi Building, featuring a keynote speech by Dr. Surachai Sathitkunarat, President of the Office of the National Higher Education, Science, Research, and Innovation Policy Council, Thailand. It will be followed by a panel discussion on blue carbon and sustainability with experts from leading universities in the UK, Malaysia, and Japan.
