Consul-General of the Consulate of the Republic of Indonesia, Songkhla paid an official visit and gave a special talk at Walailak University (WU)





On 25 April 2019, Prof. Dr. Sombat Thamrongthanyawong, President of Walailak University, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Surin Maisrikrod, Vice-President for Global Engagement and Faculty Development, Asst. Prof. Dr. Janya Chanchaichujit, Acting Director of the Center for International Affairs, WU Deans, WU staff and students, and some Indonesian staff and students gave a warm welcome to the guest of honor, Mr. Fachry Sulaiman, Consul-General of the Consulate of the Republic of Indonesia, Songkhla/Head of Mission at Mokhalan Meeting Room, 2nd Floor, Administration Building, Walailak University.

Prof. Dr. Sombat Thamrongthanyawong expressed his warm welcome and delight to have the opportunity to hear a special talk on “Thailand and Indonesia Relations” delivered by Mr. Consul-General this afternoon. He mentioned in his welcome speech that Indonesia and Thailand have a close relationship since Ayutthaya Period. Nowadays, this kind of bond between the two countries still exists and getting stronger in the ways that we support each other for mutual prosperity. Moreover, WU President conveyed his gratitude to Indonesian Government for supporting Darmasiswa Scholarships to Walailak students and accepting over years our students to complete their Cooperative Education at the Consulate of Republic of Indonesia, Songkhla and Walailak University welcome all Indonesian staff and students to work and study at Walailak University.

Mr. Fachry Sulaiman thanked to WU President and Walailak University for arranging a warm hospitality to him and congratulated to WU for the world class research ranked by SCIMAGO Institution Ranking. WU has been ranked 696th in the SCIMAGO Institution Ranking among the world universities, 255th among ASIA universities, and 7th among Thai universities. Mr. Consul-General admired WU on tremendous efforts put into the university development in terms of staff and student development, educational management, infrastructure and landscape. He said that among high competition of educational institutions in the region and the world, WU has worked hard to drive herself to be a member of world class universities and those ranks are proof of its endeavor. The Consul-General and Consulate of the Republic of Indonesia is willing to continue support WU students in terms of their internship work placement and visa for pursuing the WU in-country programs. Moreover, Mr. Consul-General was proud of some Indonesian staff and Ph.D. students who are currently working and studying at Walailak University. After an official welcome, President Sombat Thamrongthanyawong took Mr. Consul-General through WU campus visiting WU Hospital, WU Garden, and Architecture Building.

In the afternoon session, Mr. Fachry Sulaiman gave his special talk on “Thailand and Indonesia Relations” to 70 staff and students of ASEAN Studies Program. The talk went very warm and well.
