Walailak University, Thailand signed MOU with Open Edutainment, China



On 9th October 2019, Professor Dr. Sombat Thamrongthanyawong, President of Walailak University (WU) and Mr. Zhao Guoxiang, Vice-Director of ASEAN Chinese Testing International Service Center (Thailand), has signed the MOU on Chinese Testing Center (internet based) at Mokhalan Meeting Room, Administration Building, Walailak University. Also present as the honorable and distinguished witnesses at the MOU signing ceremony were Mr. Zhao Min, CEO of Bejing National Center for Open & Distance Education (Open Edutainment), Mr. Zhao Mingguang, Director of ASEAN Chinese Testing International Service Center (Thailand), Assoc. Prof. Dr. Surin Maisrikrod, Vice-President for Global Engagement and Faculty Development, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Charun Bunyakan, Vice-President for Academic Affairs and the executive members of the two institutions.

Professor Dr. Sombat Thamrongthanyawong mentioned in his welcome remarks that the academic collaboration between National Center for Open & Distance Education, ASEAN Chinese Testing International Service Center (Thailand), and Walailak University has the main objective to develop quality of Walailak University graduates. He realizes that one of the keys to achieve the goal and be a successful institution is having an opportunity to collaborate with efficient global partners.

Open Edutainment is a successful organization with a high reputation in China. It is a great opportunity for WU and Open Edutainment to be a strategic partnership. So far, we have collaborated on a student recruitment project—recruiting Chinese students to study in international degree programs offered by the University. WU thanked Open Edutainment for their contribution and hard working to run the project effectively for achieving the mutual goal of the two institutions. WU can rest assure that we will give a full support to facilitate all working processes of Student Recruitment Project and Chinese Testing Center Establishment Project. President Sombat also congratulated the People Republic of China for the 70th Anniversary on the past 1st October this year.

Mr. Zhao Min expressed his pleasure and is honored to visit WU today. He was impressed by a beautiful scenery and green landscape of the University. Mr. Zhao said that WU is renowned and well-known by Chinese students. Currently, over 8 million of Chinese students graduated first degree from universities in China. This is a good opportunity for Open Edutainment and WU to work for the recruiting campaign mobilizing Chinese students to study at WU. Mr. Zhao Min stated that currently, Open Education collaborates with more than 400 leading educational institutions, over 1 million students joined our programs. The new MOU between WU and Open Education today will pave the way to educational development and betterment. We are also interested in supporting and recruiting students to study Public Health programs. Nowadays, Chinese government has several health care projects and needs sufficient personnel to serve health care organizations. With our good friendship, CEO Zhao realizes that the two institutions can be definitely able to reach our ultimate goal. He also invited WU executive members to visit Open Education and their partners in China.

For the Chinese Testing Center, the Chinese Program of WU School of Liberal Arts has been designated as Walailak University Chinese Proficiency Testing Center (internet based). The Center arranges the Chinese Proficiency Test--HSK 1 to HSK 6 for at least 300 test takers per year. The Center is now under the process of preparation of computers, servers, and relevant accessories necessary for the Test Center. Soon after MOU signing, three WU Chinese Lecturers will be invited to attend the invigilator training program arranged by Open Education in Bangkok.
